What is Dogecoin (DOGE)
Dogecoin (DOGE) is an open source, decentralized crypto currency that was forked from Litecoin in December 2013, by Billy Markus from Portland Oregon and Jackson Palmer from Sydney, Australia. Dogecoin started as a joke, based on the popular ‘doge’ meme. As a Proof of Work crypto currency, DOGE is a coin that is mined. Although it has not been developed actively since 2018, it is still a popular coin with miners.
Dogecoin marketed itself as the fun version of Bitcoin with its ‘doge’ logo. DOGE’s total supply is unlimited, it is not a deflationary coin like bitcoin. Tesla CEO Elon Musk can be considered as one of the fans of this crypto currency. He tweeted several times about Dogecoin is his favourite. His Twitter bio was “The CEO of DogeCoin” for a while. Started as an internet joke, DOGE is still a crypto currency that has one of the biggest marketcap.
