The Prosecutors of Virgil Griffith have filed legal applications to the presiding Judge concerning how the accused allegedly tried to access one of his frozen cryptocurrency accounts that is worth nearly $1 million.
Not only that, they noted that Griffith “has posed a serious risk of flight since the outset of this case” and is more likely to evade trial. The prosecutors remarked that he has violated two of his bailment conditions and should thus be returned to jail.
Amy Castor reported this with some tweets:
Virgil Griffith is a renowned Ethereum developer. He was alleged to have spoken about how people can use cryptocurrency to outsmart the United States sanctions at the Pyongyang Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Conference in 2019.
The Prosecuting party charged him for that reason. In Defence, Griffith’s lawyer rebutted that he did nothing wrong in the eye of the law because he didn’t render “services” to North Korea as no consideration was furnished.
Later on, the Court granted him bail pending the time his case would be completely heard.
As at the time of writing this report, the Defence Counsel to Griffith hasn’t made any formal counter application regarding the latest development.
